2013 Proceeds to benefit:
The Endometriosis Research Center

Picture
From ERC website - "Endometriosis is a painful disorder in which tissue similar - but not identical - to the uterine lining (endometrium) is found in other areas of the body, where it doesn't belong (Redwine et al). Most commonly, the abdominopelvic organs are affected, but the disease may also be found in areas like the lungs, diaphragm and even rarely, in such remote locations as the brain.  Endometriosis affects nearly 176 million women and girls globally (Hummelshoj; WERF) at a staggering annual cost exceeding $100 billion annually (D'Hooge et al).  Often misclassified or invalidated as simply 'killer cramps', symptoms of the disease routinely include painful periods, pelvic pain at any point in a woman or girl's cycle, infertility, pain with sexual activity, gastrointestinal and urinary tract
difficulties, and much more.  Endometriosis can affect women and girls from all walks of life and socioeconomic backgrounds, ranging from adolescence to post-menopause. In many cases, it may be so painful and life-altering as to significantly impair a woman or girl’s ability to care for herself, her family, pursue her career, attend school or social functions, or go about her normal
routine."  Find out more about endometrios at www.endocenter.org

The Hultberg Family - "Baby Lilly"

Picture
We came to know and love Baby Lilly through our community and also as Honored Teammate for Team in Training.  She has had a long leukemia journey.  See more about Lilly below.

Lilly's cancer has returned...both the ALL and the AML. She was first diagnosed with leukemia at 11 weeks of age and has endured more in her 5 years than most of us will in our lifetimes.  Her family is devastated but ready for a fight.  They need our help....

Mission:
Team In Training is a comprehensive endurance training program for runners, walkers, cyclists and triathletes to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The goal of Team In Training is to increase funding to support the Society's mission while promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. Founded in 1949, we are relentless in pursuit of our mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Reasons to Support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

  • The need is critical: More than 912,938 Americans have leukemia, Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma.

  • Every five minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer.

  • Every 10 minutes, someone dies. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children under the age of 20.

  • Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers and incidence increases with age.

  • The survival rate for myeloma is only 37 percent (as of 2005). Incidence is nearly twice as high among African Americans as for all other races.

Baby Lilly at the Trek 'n Treat October 31, 2009

Baby Lilly is a beautiful, spunky 3 year old with a smile that would melt antarctica in a flash.  If you met her, you would never guess that she's been fighting for her life since she was 11 weeks old.

She has been diagnosed and treated with 2 different acute leukemias.  She has endured aggressive chemotherapy, whole body radiation, and bone marrow transplantation.

Her family is amazing.  She is amazing.  We are so grateful and honored that Baby Lilly's family has shared their inspiring journey with us. They inspire us in a way we cannot put into words.

Those of us who donate our time, money (and feet) to Team in Training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society do so believing that what we do will bring hope, comfort and ultimately a cure for blood cancers.

We hope you come out and support the Selah Community FunD Run  events - and help us help this wonderful organization in its so very important mission!

August 2010 Update:  Lilly and her family are doing very well.  Her uncle, grandmother and mom's best friend all trained and raised funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society during Team in Training's 3rd season in Yakima each completing a 1/2 Marathon at Rock 'n Roll Seattle.  Lilly's mother Heather spoke to hundreds of TNT participants from across the country in Seattle race weekend moving everyone in the audience.  Most importantly Lilly is healthy and thriving!!! Plan to keep running to keep it that way!!!!
